The majestic Blue Mosque is an amazing remnant of Istanbul's role as capital of the Ottoman Empire. The outside itself is beautiful, but the real gem here is the interior. The large ceiling is filled with intricate Arabic calligraphy and takes it's name "Blue Mosque" for its Iznik tiles. It is a free attraction, like all mosques in Istanbul, but remember to take your shoes off and stay very quiet inside- it's a religious building. Well, why is it my favorite and what is there to do here? It is my favorite attraction in Istanbul simply because of the huge- whatever, let the picture explain it. The silence is slightly eerie and you can hear every echo- its so calm, my dad promptly sat on the floor and meditated for fifteen minutes. There is not much to do here, but be sure to take pictures of the interior- they will light up any photo album. Time to spend: 15 minutes to visit; if you want to pray, it will take longer
Bottom Line: Since it is in the popular tourist area, definitely do this along with Hagia Sofia.
