One of my favorite places in Paris was the Hôtel Des Invalides, known by us English-speakers simply as the Army Museum. It is not one, but a whole complex of buildings dedicated to mainly two things: Napoleon and items of war. The Army Museum contains many items of war (weapons, armor, and more weapons an armor.) You can see a ton of medieval armor and weapons such as cannons, swords and old muskets. The main draw of the museum, however seemed to be Napoleon Bonaparte's Tomb.
Once you enter the building in which France's founding father lay to rest, you will notice something: the room is oddly quiet, much like any church. A single word will cause an echo, and silence is a somewhat unwritten rule. Both his tomb and the celing (look up) are quite fabulous. His tomb is pretty much an oversized, polished wooden sarcophagus. Downstairs, there is a crypt; you won't see anyone you know, but there are sure a ton of military officers buried there. The crypt isn't fabulous, and if you really want to see some famous people buried go to the Pantheon. Time to spend: 30 minutes to 2 hours Bottom Line: Don't miss Napoleon's Tomb, which is located on the back of the building complex.
